I’m not a big fan of winters. They’re long and cold and it’s so easy to get sick. There are some good things about winter, but overall it’s my least favorite season. But in March, winter starts to fade and signs of spring begin to appear. My favorite reminder that spring is coming is the start of spring training! Spring training is when baseball teams start to prepare for the upcoming season. Spring training begins in late February/early March in both the US and Japan. Even though it’s just training and the games have no meaning, it’s always great to see players on the field. It’s a great warmup for the long baseball season to come!
In the US, spring training is held in Arizona and Florida. These are two states in the southern part of the US. Even though northern states are still cold around this time of year, southern states have mild winters and great spring baseball weather. I know some teams in Japan also hold their spring training in Okinawa, presumably for the same reason.
One of my bucket list items is attending spring training in Arizona with my family. The Cubs (my favorite team!) along with many other teams train there and from what I see on TV it looks like a great time. The stadiums are much smaller than the regular season venues, but you can have a picnic on the grass and enjoy baseball. It looks very relaxing. I hope I can get out there one day and enjoy spring training with my family.
