Hello, everyone! It’s starting to feel a little hot and humid recently, which means that summer is just around the corner. I’m excited for August, because I am going to go back to the U.S. for a little while. It’s been a long time, so I’m excited to see my family and friends. But there’s another friend whom I can’t wait to see, albeit one who is much hairier than my normal companions… our family dog, Murphy!
Murphy is a very cute and obedient golden retriever. In typical retriever fashion, he loves being pet and playing fetch. If he sees you’re unoccupied, he’ll bring you a ball, or lift up your arm with his nose to encourage you to pet him. He likes to carry a bone in his mouth and walk around the house in a circle, whining the whole time. He also likes to go in and outside, back and forth, as many times as the humans around him will let him. He usually takes his bone with him, then, too. He is extremely talented at looking forlorn or melancholy (sad and gloomy). He never begs for “human food” or jumps up on the counter or the table to steal it, which our old dog, Sam, did.
Murphy’s bad habits are jumping up on furniture (especially beds) when we’re not home, plunging with abandon into bodies of water (he has an almost magnetic attraction to them and can’t resist jumping right in), and rolling in sand and dirt. These tendencies sometimes cause us some trouble in the form of mess or increased canine odor, but we still love him. He is over ten years old now, so he’s kind of a grandpa. I hope he’ll still have some energy and excitement when I see him this summer! I love him a lot.
