As all y’all know, a week ago we didn’t have Hello!s classes again! So, Emily, Michael and I made our way to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to see the sights! A lot happened over the course of this vacation, but the best part by far was me getting robbed by a wild monkey!
So, here’s the story; We decided to travel to the beautiful and colorful Bata Caves. Around and in the caves are several Hindu Temples filled with the various Hindu gods and of course, wild monkeys. Along with the gods and monkeys the shrine pays special attention to the Hindu god Murugan. Murugan is the god of war and a very important deity in South Asian culture. He is a very interesting god and if you would like to learn more about him than I highly recommend researching him. I would try to explain his importance, but that would take a very long time…
Anyways! A little something about these particular monkeys, they are extremely accustomed to be surrounded by tourist. The caves are considered to be a World Heritage Site and see a few thousand visitors a year. To say the least, these monkeys know how to get what they want and fast. At first though, I didn’t want to believe that. Emily warned me that the monkeys can be mean and to stay clear, but I didn’t want to listen. So, as soon as I was done taking a picture of this cute little monkey I felt something grab the bag I was holding! I immediately scream (which attracted a lot of attention), turned around and saw my small pink plastic bag getting whisked away into a tree! The monkey I had just taken a picture of had stolen my pink bag with my souvenirs in it! Inside the bag was a small, metal, golden statue of the god Murugan that was placed inside a cardboard box. The monkey immediately ripped open the bag, then the box and attempted to take a large bite out of my statue! Disappointed that it was not some delicious fruit, he then threw my statue over the cliff side! The statue tumbled down the cliff and back onto the stairs where a kind man gave the statue back to me.
I was so happy to get it back, but at the same time was so shocked that this monkey had actually robbed me of my souvenir! Other than that the trip was fantastic! We all had such a great time and saw a lot of interesting things in only a few days.
I hope all of y’all are happy to be back at school and ready to continue working hard!
See y’all in class!
