Watermelon is a gift from above, and just about everyone loves this fruit. Growing up my family would eat watermelon every summer while we were on our family trips. I’ve always enjoyed eating watermelon, and one family trip in particular my dad showed my siblings and me a special watermelon. This watermelon was yellow on the inside instead of red! I had never seen a watermelon like this before. My initial thought was there must be something wrong with this watermelon, but my dad reassured me that it was suppose to be this color. Later in my life, I found myself curious as to way this watermelon is different in color. After a bit of research I found that this lack of pinkish/red tint is due to there being no lycopene ( i.e. Antioxidant). Yellow watermelons are usually sweeter than regular watermelons, but do not offer as much health benefits. If you happen to come across an opportunity to try one of these special watermelons don’t hesitate try it!
