America and Japan are two very different countries and it’s common for people unfamiliar with only one culture to be surprised about things that are common in the other. One thing that you might be surprised to find surprises Americans about Japan is the number of vending machines here. In Japan, vending machines are very common and many people use them in their daily lives because they are found in so many places. In America, however, vending machines are not so common and in some places can be hard to find. Many Americans visiting Japan will notice the number of vending machines and it has become an iconic representation of Japan in the US to think of street corners with vending machines. I love vending machines and use them frequently when I’m out on walks. They’re just one more thing that I like about living here in Japan.
