I recently visited Aqua Toto Gifu located in Kakamigahara. Aqua Toto Gifu is a fresh-water aquarium showcasing animals from all over the world and from right here in Gifu Prefecture. It’s a very nice museum and I was able to learn a lot about the aquatic life in this area. My favorite animal that I saw was a Capybara, a large rodent that lives in and near water in South America. It’s so cute!

今日、昨日という英語は知っていても、明後日、おとといなどの言葉は

あまり使うことがなくいざ使おうとしても心配ではありませんか。

特に年末年始忙しく、久しぶりに会った友人に話したいことがいっぱい！

なんて時には、正直”いつ”なんてどちらでもいいんですけどね。

それでも、もしすっと正確な時が言い表されればそのほうが会話もスムーズです。

The previous day of the New Year’s Day is called Omisoka.

元旦の前日をおおみそかと言います。

もうおおみそかも過去になってしまい、そろそろ節分やバレンタインの季節ですね。

卯年、早くないですか？？？

In July, I left Hello!s.  It was a difficult decision.  I had been teaching here for ten years and teaching was something that I enjoyed doing.  The hardest part was saying good bye to my students.  I’m very happy that I was able to come back to Hello!s and start teaching again.  I’ve missed being in the classroom and talking to my students each week.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone and having a lot of fun in class.

I’m also excited to share some of my experiences from the last few months with you.  From September until January, I was in Chicago with my two kids.  We had a great time visiting family and friends that we haven’t had the opportunity to meet, due to COVID.  I’ll be using this blog to share a few of those experiences with you.  In the meantime, let’s have fun in class and speak lots of English each week.  

海外旅行へ行ってさまざまな文化に触れてそれを吸収する。そして、それを自分の授業に還元するということを何十年も行ってきました。もう10年以上前に、「ケニー坂本のカルチャーショック」という本を出しました（全然売れませんでしたが）。その内容を読んでほしいのですが、最近は、高1の授業でその本文から英作文をしています。ちょっとした表現なのですが、改めて日本語が難しいと感じますし、そこで考える時間を生まれることはいいなと思っています。大学入試でも英作文は出題されます。何気ない日本語を英語に直す力、そして世界の価値観を感じることができるのはいいことだと思います。これからも授業の時間が余った時にカルチャーショックの英作文を行っていきましょう！
