みなさんこんにちは。

突然ですがみなさんは休日など時間がある時、何をして過ごしていますか。私は、何か買うわけでもなく色々な店をぶらぶらと見て回ることがよくあります。

買い物が好きなので、買う予定のなかったものを突然買ってしまうことがよくあります。アウトレットモールや大型ショッピングセンターだとお店がたくさんあって楽しいですよね。今回は、「ぶらぶらと歩く」という表現をご紹介します。

いくつか表現はありますが、私がよく使うのは”stroll”です。他にも”roam”や”wander”といった表現あります。

どれも覚えておいて損はないと思います。

余談ですが、私が中学生の頃、サマースクールでアメリカのショッピングセンターで指定されたものの単語を見つけてくるというゲームがありました。今もあるかもしれませんが。当時の私のお題は「ベビーカー」でした。「ベビーカーはbaby car じゃないのかよ！」と感じていました。結局最後まで見つけることができず、悔しい思いをしました。正解は「stroller」です。ぶらぶらするという表現が”stroll”でベビーカーは”stroller”。なぜこんな単語にしたのか。baby car でいいと今でも思っています。

Oh my gosh the third year of doing ugly Christmas sweaters is coming! I can’t believe it even turned into a tradition in the first place… This year though my sweater will be even crazier and uglier than the last! Y’all don’t even know what is coming… Here are a few photos of the last two years of sweaters!

１月にある2021年度第３回の英検に向けて、自習室で勉強する子が少しずつ増えてきました。

おうちで勉強して、分からない語句や文法について質問してくれる子。

レッスンのあとに居残りで勉強していく子。

「１月になってから始めるよ！」という子…。

それぞれのペースがあると思いますが、コツコツが一番確実に覚えられると思います。

小学生で準２級、２級を目指す子たちには「とにかく単語や熟語を１日２つずつでいいから覚えよう！」と話します。

年末年始のお休みを効率的に使って勉強してもらえると嬉しいです。

気づけば今年も残り3週間ほどとなっています。

クリスマスやお正月が近づいてきていますね。

今年1年を振り返り、やり残したことがないようにしたいですね。

I love winter. It’s not as scenic as fall, but it is cold. Do I like being cold? I’m not insane, so no. However, I do like wearing wool coats and sweaters, and I like curling up in a blanket on the couch, and I like drinking steaming hot cups of cocoa. These are all things that I can only do in the cold of winter. Therefore, I love winter.

I have quite a few blankets at home. More than I objectively need, honestly. It doesn’t get as cold in Ogaki as it does in Seattle, so I haven’t really needed more blankets. However, my sister back home has been shivering her way through fall and into winter, so she clearly needs more blankets. What’s the point of such cold weather if you can’t become a proper blanket burrito? Then it’s just needless suffering. Since I’ve gotten so much yarn lately for crochet, I decided to make my sister a blanket for Christmas to facilitate her blanket burrito-ing. It’s not a huge blanket, since I need to fit this thing in my suitcase along with all my other stuff when I visit, but it’s certainly big enough for a nice lap blanket while on the couch watching TV or playing video games.

It’s finished now, but I’m terrible about photographing my crafting projects, so here’s a WIP from early on, when it was about 1m wide and 41cm long. And I can attest that it’s very cozy, because when I work on it (while sitting on my sofa watching YouTube on the TV), the finished portions cover my lap and keep me nice and warm and comfy. I hope she enjoys it even more in her bitterly cold Seattle winters.
