Summer is upon us, which I dread. I’m not much for hot weather, personally. Cool and cold weather are more my fair. I have something of an unhealthy obsession with collecting tall boots, coats, and sweaters– none of which can be worn in summer. Therefore, winter is their time to shine! Alas, winter’s moved on, and it’s time for me to transfer my wool coats into storage.

While I’m sad to put away my winter wardrobe, summer does have its benefits. Most notably, the later sunset. Usually I’m at work when sunset rolls around, but with the new schedule we’ve been on lately, I get off work shortly before the sun sets and can actually be outside to appreciate it on weekdays. My favorite part of winter is the reduced hours of sunlight. The sun is not my friend, after all. So, seeing the sun depart is both beautiful and relieving. Between sunrises and sunsets, the latter is my favorite for that reason.

Luckily for me, Ogaki has a great vantage point for beautiful sunsets: the pedestrian bridge between Ogaki Station and Aquawalk. You get a picture perfect view of the mountain in the distance and the sun settling behind it. Furthermore, while I’ve never seen fog inside Ogaki proper, I often see majestic cloud formations coiling around the mountains and hills, their shapes artfully defined by shadows, back-lighting, and refraction. I can almost forgive the Sun for its bright, burning torment when I see such beautiful sunsets.

庭の片隅に野イチゴが実っているのを発見し、収穫してみたところ、、、

興味津々で猫のせんろくが近寄ってくんくんと匂いを嗅ぎ始めた所をパシャりと。

雨が増えじめじめとする季節が始まりますね。

雨は好きだけど湿気は嫌いと外国人の先生の一人がこの間言っていました。

毎年のことなので慣れてしまっていますが、湿気との闘いも大変ですね。

先日、ジョージア校の隣の家に住むロニーさんからメッセージがきました。３月に行く予定だった「スプリングブレイク」が中止になり、もう半年以上訪れていないジョージア校です。「どうしてるの？近所の人が何度か聞いてきたわ。」って感じです。ジョージア州もたくさんの人が感染し、死者も出ていますので、こちらも心配でしたが。それでも、アメリカ人はSNSでたわいもない日常を投稿してくれるので、ただそれらを見るだけでも大丈夫なのかなと安心しています。この写真の犬は「moneky」です。一時期行方不明になりましたが、今はまた無事にロニーさんと過ごしているようです。次、いつ訪れることができるかわかりませんが、早く日常を感じたいですね。

みなさんこんにちは。

このブログでも何度か紹介していますが、我が家には猫が２匹います。

「あんみつ」と「きなこ」という兄弟なのですが、昔ハローズで英語を教えていたアンディ先生が拾った元野良ネコです。

2日後の22日に２歳の誕生日を迎えるまだまだやんちゃな２匹です。

そして、今日新たに２匹？２羽？の家族が仲間入りしました！

小さくてわかりにくいですが、家の隣にある倉庫にツバメがやってきました！

数日前からこの辺りをグルグルと飛んでいたのですが、今日から巣を作り始めました。

名前を決めるつもりはないのですが、同じ家族としてあたたかく見守っていこうと思います。

（この時期になると小さな虫が大量発生するので、退治してくれるとありがたいです）

Hey y’all!

 On May 11th I turned a quarter of a century old! That’s right y’all I’m 25! It still hasn’t hit me yet… it feels like yesterday I was just turning 18. I’m super happy to be 25 though. I’m happy to be getting older. I know that may seem a little unusual, but I mean it! Getting older means getting wiser. Although I enjoyed 18 year old Sam, 21 year old Sam and even 24 year old Sam, I still feel happier being 25. Why? Because I feel like I learn a lot each year. Every birthday, I find happiness in knowing that I’m stronger, smarter and better than the year before.
