Since it has been getting colder recently, I decided to take a trip to Gero to try out the hot springs. While I was there, I saw a very popular cafe next to the main road. There were people lining up down the street to get in the shop, so I decided to see why it was so popular. As I got closer, I saw a small fountain with hot water. There was a separate place for people to take a foot bath while enjoying hot vanilla pudding, heated from the mineral water. My friend ordered the pudding, but I decided to try out another popular item on the menu: soft serve vanilla ice cream, topped with cornflakes and an onsen egg. I was told that if you mix the egg and the ice cream together, it would taste like custard. 

I’ve never tried anything like it before. I couldn’t decide if I liked the taste or not, but it was definitely worth trying, especially while soaking my feet in the foot bath!

民間英語検定試験が大学入試での導入が延期されました。それでも、これから数多くの中高生のみなさんが英検等の試験を受けていくことになると思います。英検講座の担当をしていて、ある意味ホッとした点もあります。それは、生徒の皆さんが英語を「話す」ことは苦手だとわかっていたのですが、それ以前に取り組まなければいけないことをいくつか感じました。英検準2級や2級の2次試験の自分の意見を述べる問題では、「インターネットショッピングについてもっと注意深くなるべきだと思いますか。」とか「今日、様々な種類の日本映画があります。将来日本映画は外国でもっと人気が出ると思いますか。」などの問いに対して自分の意見とともに理由を述べなければいけません。たっぷりと時間が与えられれば答えられるかもしれませんが、ほぼ即答しなければいけません。4年後の大学入試で4技能が課せられることになれば、おそらくタブレット等に録音する形式がとられるでしょう。時間制限のある中こういった問題に英語で答えるには、長いコツコツと練習することが必要です。なにより、自分の意見を述べることが重要でありますし、将来問われる力でもあります。こういった民間の試験を通してそういった力を養っていくことも大事だと強く思います。ハローズの授業では、どんどん考え、その考えを英語で述べる練習をしていきたいと思います。

先日、来年の３月に出発する「スプリングブレイク・イン・アメリカ 2020」の事前研修がありました。

今回は10人の生徒が参加してくれることになったのですが、最初の研修で初めて参加者と顔を合わせるという事で、緊張している生徒も何人かいました。 出発までにあと5回研修があるので、残りの研修で緊張がほぐれていい雰囲気でアメリカに飛び立てればと思っています。

時が経つのは速いですね。

気が付けば今年も残すところ約20日間しかありません。

今年を簡単に振り返って見ると、

今年やろうと思っていたことができたり、

一方でまだできていないこともあったり。

残りの約20日間でできるだけ達成して、

気持ちよく新年を迎えたいですね。

済ませられることは済ませてしまいましょう。

  I hope y’all are staying extra warm this December with lots of hot coco and loads of blankets. For the second year now I’m making my way back home to spend Christmas and New Years with my family, friends and boyfriend. Although I absolutely loathe the plane ride to America, I’m excited spend Christmas in a new place. In March of this year, my brother took a job with Porsche in Columbus, Ohio. In comparison to Texas that place is unbelievably cold, so I’m excited and nervous to experience my first white Christmas. I’m also hoping this time in Columbus will also be the start of a new family tradition. Either way, I’m just excited to do something new with my family.
