１０月１０日は空を見る日です。

秋の澄んだ空気の中、１０時１０分　空を見上げてみましょう。

昔はこの日が体育の日だったのが分かる気がします。昭和３９年の

東京オリンピック開会式の空が素晴らしく奇麗だったことから

提唱されたとか。

 

普段自然から離れていても、日の出や、日の入りを見ると

なんだか感動しますね。空を丁寧にみていると原点に戻って

毎日生かされていることに気づかされます。

空は、毎日違っています。空というキャンバスに書かれた雲は、

あまりに美しく自然の作る芸術品・・・のようですね。

 

済んだ空気を胸いっぱいに秋を楽しんでください。

The temperature has been up and down in recent weeks, but it’s gradually getting cooler after another hot, humid summer in central Japan.  Fall is my favorite season for a lot of reasons – Halloween, Thanksgiving, the leaves changing colors – but maybe my favorite thing is just how comfortable it is.  In my hometown, summers are very hot and winters are VERY cold.  But cool weather in fall was always perfect. Summer clothes are fun, and I don’t mind wearing winter clothes, but I always have trouble finding a coat that is both comfortable and warm enough.  In fall, though, I get to dig my hoodies out of summer storage.  We often refer to fall weather as “hoodie weather”, because it’s the time of year when going out in a hoodie will keep you warm enough.  Hoodies are comfortable and they look good and hoodie shopping is always fun.  I am glad that hoodie weather is here, and I will enjoy it until winter coat weather comes.

例年は、新しい外国人講師を発掘に渡米しているのが常でした。ジョンの故郷のミシガン州のホープ大学ではこれまで１０人以上の先生を雇ってきました。近くにはジョンのお母さんやお姉さん、おいやめいなどの親戚が住んでいていつも家族のように接してくれました。ちょっと早めのサンクスギビングに参加したり、もちろんハロウィンも。仕事とは言え、夕方に終わるのでそれ以降のじかんにいろいろな人に会うのが楽しみでした。ジョンの両親はいつもおいしいメキシコ料理店に連れて行ってくれました。カジノを経験したのもミシガン州でした。ホープカレッジの仕事を終えると、車で南に下がりインディアナ州のサウスベンドという町にあるノートルダム大学にも何度も行きました。「ノートルダム」って聞いたことがある人はいるんじゃないですか？そして、その後は、ジョージア校のあるジェファーソンへ。ジョージア大学までは車で３０分くらい。なかなかジョージア大学では採用が難しいのですが、昔ハローズで働いていたカイル・ラビンググッドが今でもそこにいます。娘のコリンちゃんもずいぶん大きくなりました。いつも、顔を合わせて昼食なり、また飲みに行くこともありました。過去形で言うのがちょっと寂しいですが、来年は・・・アメリカで採用をしたいですね。この写真はちょうど一年前に、メキシコ料理の昼食をいっしょに食べたときのものです。

岐南校ではハロウィンの準備が進んでいて、校舎の飾り付けもほとんど終わりました！

ほとんどが手作りの飾りで、岐南校らしさが出ているのではないかと思います。

 

10月の最後の週には先生はもちろんですが、生徒のみなさんも自由に仮装をして授業に参加してもらいます。

授業に支障が出ない程度で好きな仮装を楽しみましょう！！

Hello everyone! As the weather starts to cool off, some new flowers have started to bloom. I’m surprised to see that spider lilies have popped up. 

When I was younger, I watched a lot of anime, and the spider Lily would be a popular flower. Because of it’s beauty, the spider lily  instantly became one of my favorites. I have always known of the red spider lilies, but seeing white lilies were a real surprise! I had to stop and take a picture because they are so beautiful! I had no idea that there were white spider lilies as well! It’s fun to have a variety of your favorite flower! I can’t choose which color is my favorite though, can you? Let me know!
